We began working with Simone when we began to contemplate the idea of marriage. After an extensive search, we decided to enroll in Prepare and Enrich curriculum that used evidence-based practices as well as had a specific focus on our values of faith. Over the course of a few weeks, Simone excelled at her ability to foster difficult conversations between us using a solution-based approach.

Our goal was to put everything on the table while working with her to help us decide whether we wanted to make a commitment to spend the rest of our lives together. While we accomplished much in the one-hour sessions each week, she challenged us to take our conversations and focus on applying what we learned through a weekly assignment. Her skillful work and keen eye for detail provided both of us with great communication tools and the detailed understanding of our values and desires for the present and future. In just a matter of days of finishing our last session with Simone, the world we knew changed because of COVID 19. Despite the world coming to halt, the tools that we learned allowed us to navigate the changes that lay ahead.

We ultimately got engaged and married in a few short weeks but have been thankful to have one another throughout the pandemic. In great part our marriage has thrived, even amid COVID-19 in great part because of the tools Simone equipped us with before the start of our marriage. Because we were able to proactively have conversations prior to marriage, we were more prepared to merge our lives together and have been able to work more cohesively as a result. I thought our marriage could not be saved:  Power struggles, intimacy issues, adult children issues, in-law issues.  I thought, how could one couple have so many issues?  We fought about EVERYTHING.   But one thing I knew was that somehow, we had made it through so many other things over the years and were still together -- so there had to be a reason why, right?

My husband and I were at a point where I did not see any hope for a future in our marriage. After some research, I was able to find Simone Finnis. We attended sessions with Simone together as a couple and a few counselling sessions individually to understand where our break down was occurring. My husband and I cannot say enough about how Simone helped us communicate better and work through some tough issues as a newly married couple. We were recommended to Simone through a friend as a great LMFT and couples coach, specifically around her one day marriage prep course. We took the course when newly engaged and learned we were on the same page about a lot things but different in some areas we were unaware of. Based on her experience Simone highlighted one area that might be of significant challenge for us. The topic we didn’t see as a big deal that at the time so we brushed it off. Little did we know how significant it would become after marrying and moving together. It became very hard for both of us to deal with. After months of frustration, arguments and miscommunication on both sides we agreed to reach out Simone for help. We are both so thankful we did. Not only did Simone help us break down communication barriers we had built up around the topic but she got to the underlying cause of the issues and helped us with new insights into ourselves and our couple dynamic. Thank you really does not seem like enough for all you have done for our family. I know we did the work but you helped us to see things we couldn't see when we first came in your office. You have been truly a blessing to us and we believe that you were a "Divine Appointment" for our family. What was revealed to us through your wise counsel was "how do we honor and respect one another." I think because I was raised "old school" respect was demanded in my home and not reciprocated. Wow! When I finally saw that I was not honoring or respecting my son I realized I was hindering healthy emotional and social growth in him. We have always known our children are a gift from God, on loan, they really belong to Him and He ultimately created them for His purposes, not ours. I had to surrender my son to God daily and to really listen to him. Changing the way I respond to him has made a great difference in our home. Relinquishing control of course is another area. The parenting book that you recommended was so helpful. It helped me to accept him for where he is and who he is which in turn opened doors for great conversations. I know now I don't have to give him my answer or try to fix a problem, he is very capable of coming to his own conclusion of how he would like to handle something. Great lesson for me! Simone is a compassionate, intuitive and skilled counselor. She worked at accommodating the schedule of appointments so that we could maintain the consistency. She was able to instill confidence in our teenage daughter, so much so that she was effective in counseling our daughter on a better path and helped make our family interactions more effective.
